Tribal Urban Immunization Coalition

Background
The Washington State Tribal and Urban Indian Health Immunization Coalition (now Tribal and Urban Immunization Coalition – TUIC) is the first Tribal immunization coalition in the nation. Evidence based research has identified that immunization coalitions play a key role in the fight against infectious disease.
The TUIC is made up of dedicated partners and community members, health care providers, Elders, and Tribal Leaders working together to increase immunization rates and prevent infectious disease. TUIC ensures tribally driven, culturally grounded, and scientifically accurate work to address long standing health disparities. TUIC made a strategic decision to utilize the Elder and Tribal Leader defined Pulling Together for Wellness (PTW) framework to form the foundation of Tribal immunization work. It integrates native ways of thinking and Western science and is evidenced informed.
The purpose of TUIC is to improve American Indian and Alaska Native immunization and vaccine access, surveillance, prevention practices, infectious disease prevention, and health literacy.
