We are resilient. Our Ways are resilient.
Tribal nations possess the inherent power to self-govern. This power includes the essential role of protecting the safety and general welfare of their community members and promoting public health. Tribal health jurisdictions have a wide range of governmental responsibilities to fulfill and during emergencies those include maintaining essential functions, issuing public health mandates, implementing nonpharmaceutical interventions such as isolation and quarantine, distribution of medical countermeasures, and more.
The Commission provides technical assistance to Tribes and urban Indian health organizations with collaborative emergency response planning, creating template resolutions and codes, emergency preparedness training, facilitating regional meetings, and working with state agencies to ensure tribal sovereignty is honored in state plans, policies, and procedures.
