Tribal Wellness and Resiliency Gathering

Dates: May 28–30, 2024

The third Tribal Wellness and Resiliency Gathering is in line withthe strategic initiatives in the Washington State Suicide Prevention Plan,which includes principles that serve as key values and attitudes.

The initiation, planning, and implementation of this gatheringwill support the foundation for future programmatic work and aid the Departmentof Health Suicide Prevention Program Unit in better understanding how to fosterand sustain more successful partnerships and collaborations with our rural andurban Native communities.

This in-person gathering will focus on a strengths-based approachto prevention and will strive to emphasize protective factors inherent inNative cultural traditions and practices to address risk factors that adverselyimpact Native people.

Topics will include those listed below and may include othersidentified by the planning committee:

• Review of existing culturally specific and relevant prevention, intervention, and postvention resources, programs, and practices available at the national, state, and local levels with the intention of guiding tribal suicide prevention efforts in the state of Washington
• Engagement of tribal stakeholders and partners at the state and local levels
• Recommendations for implementing culturally informed prevention and postvention programming in schools, workplaces, urban Indian centers, social services agencies, and cultural centers
• Empowering Native youth leadership
• Prevention and postvention considerations for vulnerable communities, including but not limited to, youth and transition-age youth (age 24 and younger), elders, Two Spirit communities, and veterans
• Recommendations and guidance for the Washington State Suicide Prevention Plan

Lodging assistance specifically applies to Washington-based tribal persons forup to two nights. Up to two people from the same organization/tribe can besupported.
